New Territory - High School

I started this school year with some anxiety as our oldest daughter starts high school...

I wasn't sure if all of the previous K-8 work we had done was enough or if she would survive the multiple classes that are typical of high school (8 courses).  She would be under the instruction of multiple teachers and I would only be teaching her one or two classes.  We are enrolled in a charter school and the classes are taken online and she is taking one class live (Spanish) and a Biology lab.  Her Dad (our Chief Innovator) is also teaching her Computer Science this year.

I have always pushed my kids to be excellent in their education, not to be perfect, but to do the very best that they can.  I chose curriculum that would challenge and prepare them for higher education.  There were many days when I was at the end of my patience, they were frustrated, and I had to rethink my strategies and teaching approach.  As you know, each child learns differently and teaching has to be tailored to fit the learning styles they have.

Well, I needn't have worried about our daughter.  She is enjoying high school and is an active participant in class.  She learned to manage her time well in the years leading to high school and that has been a valuable tool for her not only academically but in her personal time as well.  Aside from her classes, she is fitting in piano practice and product management for our company.  She is mature and I am proud of her.  While it is only the fourth week of school, I am confident that she will continue to flourish in high school.
